Welcome to York’s Alternative History

In 2012 the people of York are being invited to celebrate ‘800 years since York was given the freedom to govern itself’ through York 800. Here we hope that all of us who have contested what ‘freedom to govern’ ourselves might mean – whether through activism, protest or ways of life and being – will ‘put the politics in York 800’.

We leave the definition of ‘alternative’ and ‘politics’ open for all of us to define through our contributions and throughout 2012.

The site is just getting up and running at the moment, in the meantime do click on the right to follow the blog (and get e-mails sent to you as the blog gets updated) and do start sharing your photos, sounds, videos or written reflection and analysis using the links above.
